Ten On Ten

By now, you know the STORY of the Mother Letter Project. See the FAQs for more information.  Don’t forget to tell us if you are writing or donating.

Normallly, we publish a snippet of a Mother Letter for you enjoyment. Today, we are taking a break to give you a bit of information.  We will be back next week with another snippet of a letter.

As a reminder, we are still collecting letters to complete the Mother’s Day Edition.  If you have not submitted your letter yet, send it to us. The deadline is the first week of May.

On the donation side of the project, we are taking the bull by the horns.  After careful thought and deliberation, we have decided to do a sort of internet-fundraiser this Friday, April the 10th.  As you know, our goal is to raise funds for Compassion International’s Malaria Intervention Fund.  By giving to the fund, you are giving a child in an undeveloped nation a fighting chance against malaria infection.  Just $10 provides a much needed mosquito net, which drastically reduces a child’s chance of catching the deadly parasite.

Malaria infects millions of men, women, and children every year.  Now is your chance to “Bite Back.”  Donate $10 this Friday to the fund, and if you let us know you did, we’ll reserve an electronic copy of the Mother’s Day Edition for you.  And for those of you on Twitter, we are running a sort of Twitterthon on Friday.  On Friday, tweet the fundraiser, or tell us you donated, and use the hashtag #10on10 so we can keep up with all of the posts.

Will you join us?  Let’s see if we can reach the goal in one day!

Thanks for all you do for this site.  You are truly great people!

hello seth! i think i’ve got all the background… i have one question: what prompted your first trip to africa? was it a mission trip? just curious. i love what you’ve done, using this blog to better the world and make a difference. it’s like a tree, or a vine, and it reaches in ways you might not know. it affects people like me, sitting here in my compfortable home, with my peachy life… making me appreciate all the gifts God has given, and making me love my children a little harder, and making me think that i can change the world, too. it’s really a beautiful thing.

Patty,

The trip was was instigated by an experience I had in which I questioned whether I had lost focus of the more important things in life. Like we all do from time to time, I became comfortable with the day-to-day lifestyle I had and thought it might warrant a bit of shaking up.

So that’s what I did. I shook it up.

The trip was not a mission trip, per se. It was just a trip to see a friend–a friend who is spending his time, energy, and life on people, not things. I went with one friend. We didn’t take a group or have an agenda. It was truly the way to see the village.

With respect to your statement, you can change the world. We all can. I am convinced.

Thank you for providing the opportunity to give and receive! I made a contribution to Compassion International for mosquito netting and look forward to receiving an electronic copy of the Mother’s Day Edition of the Mother Letter Project.

Several years ago I was blessed to get to visit the Mombasa/Malindi area of Africa and witnessed firsthand the benefits that mosquito netting provided in the prevention of malaria.
